To give your rice a subtle fragrance and a beautiful sheen, add a few drops of lemon juice to the water when washing the rice. A few drops of oil during cooking will also make it look glossy and appealing.
Peppercorns are a natural insect repellent. Wrap a few in small gauze bags and place them around your rice or noodle containers. The strong scent will keep bugs away.
If your rice is undercooked, poke holes through it with chopsticks down to the pot’s bottom, then sprinkle a little wine and let it steam again. If only the top layer is undercooked, mix it gently to the center and continue cooking.
If your rice starts to burn, quickly turn off the heat and place a piece of bread on top. Cover the pot for five minutes, allowing the bread to absorb the burnt flavor.
